Bachelor of Science (BSc) Honours in Nursing 2022 – The Open University of Sri Lanka

This programme aims to develop competent professional nursing graduates with broad knowledge, skills and favorable attitudes to provide quality care in every aspect of nursing practice. It is designed to contribute to the development of a graduate who will demonstrate a sense of commitment, social and personal responsibility, and sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of others

The specific objectives of the programme are to:

Enhance knowledge, skills and professional attitudes in relation to the practice of nursing
Improve critical thinking abilities to provide a holistic nursing care
Develop skills in research
Encourage application of teaching & learning concepts to promote health and well-being of the population
Improve the ability to apply concepts and skills of leadership and management in the delivery of nursing care
Enhance the capacity to communicate and collaborate effectively
Facilitate engagement in lifelong learning to advance the nursing education and practice
The BSc Honours Degree in Nursing consists of courses at Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6. The total academic value of the courses of the programme is 120 credits comprising 30 credits at each of the Levels. Level 3 & Level 4 are exempted for those who already possess a Diploma in Nursing qualification and therefore required to complete only 60 credits at Levels 5 and 6.

Requirements

Applicants should possess the following qualifications to register at the Level 5 of the Bachelor of Science Honours in Nursing Programme:

1. Obtained a minimum of the following:

a) Diploma in Nursing or General Certificate in Nursing awarded by the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka, or,
b) Diploma in Nursing offered by the OUSL, or,
c) Three (03) year Diploma in Nursing awarded by any other institution recognized by the Ministry of Health or any other Government regulatory body in Sri Lanka or any other country with a minimum of two (02) years of working experience

And

2. Obtained :

a) Minimum three (03) Pass grades in one sitting in the Science stream of study, at the General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.) Advanced Level Examination, Sri Lanka

And

b) Minimum Simple Pass (S) for English at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination, Sri Lanka

or,

c) An equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate.

And

c) Pass the Selection Test and be eligible for admission based on the merit list of the selection test marks.
