INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICANTS
APPLICATION FOR THE BACHELOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (BIT) (DEGREE PROGRAMME (EXTERNAL) – 23rd INTAKE – 2023
PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU COMPLETE THE ONLINE APPLICATION.
Applications are called in from the eligible students for the Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) Degree Programme (External) based on the entry requirements given in Section 2. The application form link is given at the bottom of the page.
1. Entry requirements
The following admission requirements will be effective from the Academic Year 2023.
No person may be registered as a candidate for the Examinations leading to the Degree unless he/she satisfies (A) and (B) below:
(A) he/she
- has obtained three passes in the Local G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination (New Syllabus) in one sitting or four passes in the Local G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination (Old Syllabus) in one sitting;
OR,
- has obtained a minimum of three “C” pass grades in Cambridge/Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level Examination in one sitting;
OR,
- has passed all the theoretical components of the Foundation in Information Technology (FIT) Programme conducted by the UCSC;
OR,
- has obtained the Higher National Diploma in Information Technology (HNDIT) where the certificate must be issued and verified by the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE);
OR,
- has obtained the NVQ-Level 5 or above qualification in IT where the certificate must be issued and verified by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC);
OR,
- has obtained any other educational qualification deemed equivalent to the qualification referred to in paragraphs A (i) to (v) above by the Senate on the recommendation of the Academic Syndicate of the UCSC and has passed a selection Test conducted by the UCSC.
AND
(B) he/she
- has obtained at least six passes in G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination with three Credits including for Mathematics and English;
OR,
- has obtained at least six passes in Cambridge/Pearson Edexcel International O Level Examination with three Credits including for Mathematics and English;
OR,
- has obtained any other educational qualification deemed equivalent to the qualification referred to in paragraph (B) (i) and (ii) above by the Senate on the recommendation of the Academic Syndicate of the UCSC
2. Instructions to submit the application
- A valid email address should be used to log in to the online registration application. This email address will be used for all communications throughout the degree programme.
- The online Application Form should be filled only in English.
- Full Name must be given as it appears on the Birth Certificate. (If the name in the Birth Certificate is different from the name which is in use, necessary amendments should be made in the Birth Certificate before getting the registration)
- Fill the name in Sinhala and Tamil script accurately where applicable.
- Please provide your correct permanent address and contact number to enable the External Degrees Centre (EDC) of the UCSC to communicate with you in future activities when filling the online application form.
- You should indicate your educational qualifications and examination results accurately and clearly.
- You should complete all the entry requirements on or before the application closing date.
3. Payments procedure
Application Fee (Rs. 2,750.00 for Local students or USD 50 for foreign students) must be made using either using the bank voucher or online payment method.
- Instructions for bank payments
- Select the bank payment method in the payment section of the application.
- Download the voucher, which has four copies.
- Pay the application fee to the EDC account number printed on the voucher at any Peoples’ Bank branch.
- Make sure the electronic endorsement is clearly visible in the payment voucher for authentication purposes.
- Upload the voucher to the relevant section of the online application.
- Fill in the bank details in the given fields accurately.
- Proceed with the completion of the online application.

- Select the online payment method in the payment section of the application.
- Fill in the Credit/ Debit card information accurately on the given fields
- Proceed with the completion of the online application.
- If there is any issue with the online payment, please send your name, application number, NIC, date and time of payment, and a screenshot of the error message you received to the email address application@ucsc.bit.lk
4. Other instructions
- Download the application form, print it, place your signature, and bring it once you are called for the selection interview.
- The application closing date will be 17th August 2023. All the applications must be completed on or before the deadline
- Please note that APPLICATION FEE IS NONREFUNDABLE
- Internal Undergraduates of the state universities who have completed the eligibility criteria also can apply for this program.
